Tattoo Aftercare
Congratulations on your new tattoo! -

Thank you for choosing Ink Shapes Tattoo Studio – en del af Nordisk Studio.

Your tattoo is more than just artwork – it is also a small wound that needs proper care while your skin heals. Correct aftercare is essential to achieve the best possible result and to reduce the risk of complications or infection.

Every person's skin heals differently. Healing time depends on several factors, including your skin type, general health, lifestyle, the location of the tattoo and how well you follow the aftercare instructions.

Please read the following guidelines carefully

Before Your Appointment

To help your body heal as efficiently as possible, we recommend that you:

  • Get a good night's sleep before your appointment.

  • Eat a proper meal beforehand.

  • Stay well hydrated.

  • Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs before your session.

  • Inform your tattoo artist if you have any medical conditions, allergies, or are taking medication that may affect healing.

Immediately After Your Tattoo

Once your tattoo is finished, your artist will clean the area and apply a protective dressing.

Follow your artist's instructions regarding how long the dressing should remain in place, as this may vary depending on the tattoo and the type of bandage used.

Cleaning Your Tattoo

After removing the dressing:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your tattoo.

  2. Gently wash the tattoo using lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap.

  3. Carefully remove any excess ink, plasma or dried blood.

  4. Pat the tattoo dry with a clean disposable paper towel.

Moisturising

Once the tattoo is completely dry:

  • Apply a very thin layer of the recommended tattoo aftercare cream.

  • Repeat this 2–3 times daily or whenever the tattoo feels dry.

  • Keep the skin lightly moisturised, but never overly greasy.

Too much cream can prevent the skin from breathing properly and may slow the healing process.

Always use a fragrance-free aftercare product recommended for tattoo healing.

During the Healing Process

During the Healing ProcessMost tattoos heal within 2–4 weeks, although complete healing beneath the skin may take longer.
During this period it is normal for your tattoo to:
  • appear slightly red
  • feel warm or tender
  • become itchy
  • peel
  • develop small scabs
These are normal signs of healing.
Do not scratch, pick or remove peeling skin or scabs. Allow them to fall off naturally to protect the quality of your tattoo.

Avoid During Healing

Until your tattoo is fully healed, avoid:

  • Swimming pools

  • Hot tubs and spas

  • The ocean, lakes or other natural water

  • Saunas and steam rooms

  • Long hot baths

  • Direct sunlight

  • Tanning beds

  • Tight clothing that rubs against the tattoo

  • Shaving the tattooed area

  • Heavy exercise if it causes excessive sweating or friction on the tattoo

Protect Your Tattoo

Once your tattoo has healed, protect it from UV exposure by applying sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher whenever it is exposed to the sun.

Regular sun protection helps preserve the colours, contrast and fine details of your tattoo for many years.

Your tattoo deserves the same level of care after you leave the studio as it received during the tattoo session. By following these aftercare instructions, you give your tattoo the best conditions to heal beautifully and remain vibrant for years to come.
